The day (January 8th) began with a flight north from Wanaka (NZWF) to Dingleburn Station on the eastern shore of Lake Hawea.
From Dingle I flew southeast to Oturehua, site of Hayes Engineering. Oturehua is in the Ida Valley of the Maniototo in central Otago. You need to dodge the new light poles to land here.
We had lunch at Hayes Engineering Works and Homestead heritage museum. The interesting inventions mostly have to do with sheep ranching.
After lunch I flew from Oturehua northwest to Geordie Hill Station near the Lindis Pass. The farmer had to chase the sheep off the airstrip with his truck before we could depart.
Matt and Jo McCaughan gave us an interesting tour of the merino sheep, the sheep dogs and shepherds, and beef cattle operations at Geordie Hill Station, followed by a delicious lamb dinner prepared by Jo. She then drove us back to Wanaka for the night.
